Collection: Peter Dennis

Peter Dennis is a professional illustrator with over fifty years of experience in children's and military publishing. An early obsession with history led him to specialise in historical reconstruction, and his work has appeared internationally across both fields.

His children's illustration includes many titles for Dorling Kindersley — notably the heavily illustrated Family Bible and several castle books — as well as a long relationship with Orpheus Books, which published widely across the European market. His children's work, particularly for younger readers, is characterised by a certain amount of whimsy, which he claims is a reward for close attention.

In later years Peter became one of the most prolific artists in the Osprey Publishing stable, illustrating over two hundred titles across the Fortress, Campaign, Weapon and Men-at-Arms series. His lifelong interest in wargaming also connected him with the flourishing miniatures industry in his home city of Nottingham, where he produced artwork for Warlord Games, the Perry twins, and several other manufacturers.

'Although I have never been called upon to serve in an army, and have been spared the horrors of war so far in my life, I regard it as a privilege to be allowed to tell the story of soldiers through the ages. I have a huge respect for the men and women who find themselves at the spear's point, and I hope that shows in my depictions of their encounters in all periods.'
